Candidates for Secretary Position
Katie Roxas
As a dedicated Bowie Hockey Club parent for the past four years and mother of an 18U Gold player, Katie brings both experience and commitment to the Secretary role. Her involvement within the club has steadily grown, most recently serving as Assistant Manager for the 16U Gold team, where she supported team operations, communication, and logistics throughout the season.
Katie is already actively engaged in many of the responsibilities aligned with the Secretary position. She is trained and cleared as a locker room monitor, time clock operator, and GameSheet iPad administrator, and has extensive experience coordinating tournaments, including scheduling, hotel accommodations, team meals, and special events. She has also planned and organized team functions such as non-league games, travel events, and team-building activities.
Professionally, she brings a strong administrative and organizational background. As the former Director of a local homeschool umbrella program and a current elementary school teacher, she has extensive experience in scheduling, communication, and record-keeping. Additionally, she managed registration for the Bel-Air Cooperative Nursery School for four years, further demonstrating her ability to maintain accurate records and coordinate large groups effectively.
Her familiarity with league logistics across MSHL, CCHL, and CBHL, along with her existing working relationships with the club scheduler, webmaster, and tournaments director, positions her to seamlessly step into the Secretary role. As a mother of four, she understands the importance of clear communication, organization, and community engagement.
Katie is committed to supporting the Bowie Hockey Club by ensuring efficient operations, transparent communication, and strong organizational structure for the benefit of players, families, and the broader BHC community.
Mark Russo
I started my hockey career at Bowie Hockey Club in 1988, playing 7 years for the Club, including being a member of the first team in history of the Club to go to Nationals in 1993. Concurrently I also played 4 years of varsity hockey at DeMatha Catholic High School, then played for the Baltimore Junior Bandits and at Towson University. I'm currently a USA Hockey Level 3 coach and was the co-head coach of the 8U Black team in 2024-25 with Sam Bowles, aftger 2 years assisting in the rec program. This upcoming season I will be the co-head coach of the 10U Gold team for 2026-27, after serving as an assistant coach on the 10U Gold team in 2025-26.
I am a proud member of the PGA of America, and currently the President of the Middle Atlantic Section of the PGA, which consists of all Maryland, Viriginia and DC, and is the 7th largest Section of the 41 PGA Sections in America. I have been in Board governance for nearly 14 years, having started in 2013. This gives me unique perspective into running an organization at the Board lvel, as the Middle Atlantic PGA is also a non-profit organization that also has a substantial operating budget, significant assets and 9 full-time employees.
I believe in what the Bowie Hockey Club once was and can be - I was part of it for many years, and I chose to bring my son, Quinn, to Bowie Hockey Club because of my deep connection to it.
It's my feeling that with the right organization from a governance perspective, with roles clearly defined and support given to each member of the Board team, we can begin to rebuild the Club and create a place where kids will thrive. It will take all of us to make it happen.
